Control
Room
The Control Room at Mosaic is treated to give a natural sounding
acoustic with no undesirable resonances which might give a false
impression from the monitor speakers. Separate stereo and 5:1 surround
monitor systems by Dyn Audio Acoustics have been installed, with
an additional monitoring signal path to the built in speakers on
a Thomson 24" widescreen television available to check mixes
on lower fidelity systems.
A cupboard off the control room houses the ProTools computer and
the PC running the automation software for the Mackie D8b mixer.
Putting the computers in this cupboard keeps the ambient noise level
in the studio right down allowing mixing to be carried out in a
quiet environment.
All the analogue audio and composite video connections are routed
via central patch bays so that signal paths can be very quickly
changed around. Also stereo digital audio signals are connected
to a Midiman programmable patching unit and these too can be quickly
connected up in different configurations.
"House Sync" is provided by a M.O.T.U. Digital Timepiece
which has the capability to synchronise virtually anything to anything,
as well as providing master digital audio clocks, video "black
burst" and "SMPTE" (Society of Motion Picture and
Television Engineers) timecode positioning. |
The Mosaic Environment
There is natural light throughout the studio and a comfortable
relaxation/dining area with fitted kitchen and toilet/shower away
from the main workrooms. At Mosaic we endeavour to generate a professional
but relaxed atmosphere which promotes creativity.
